Trump Threatens Siena Over Poll Results

President Donald Trump wants to add Siena College to his lawsuit against the New York Times, saying in a social media post that the Times/Siena poll “is always tremendously negative to me.”

Trump, who has been bringing lawsuits against media organizations almost nonstop since his second term began, also called the results “fake” and said Siena will be “held fully responsible for all their Radical Left lies and wrongdoing.”

The poll, conducted by the Siena Research Institute (SRI) for the New York Times, surveyed 1,625 registered votes and was in the field from Jan. 12-17.

Only 40 percent of respondents approved of the job that Trump is doing in office, while 56% disapproved for a minus-16 favorability rating. More than half (55%) said that 2025 was unsuccessful rather than successful, while nearly 50 percent (49%) said the country is worse off today than it was a year ago.

“Pluralities say that the country is worse off than it was a year ago and that the nation’s economy has worsened rather than improved,” said SRI executive director Don Levy.

“By 50-46%, voters approve of the job Trump is doing on the border between the U.S. and Mexico, and by 50-47%, they support his administration’s deportations of immigrants illegally living in the U.S. But, a majority now disapprove of how he is addressing immigration and nearly two-thirds, 63%, disapprove of how ICE is handling its job,” said Levy. “Sixty-one percent of Americans including 19% of Republicans, believe that ICE’s tactics have gone too far.”
