🔈 What We’re Hearing. Gov. Josh Shapiro will call for the U.S. to push China for “practical guardrails to reduce risks to the American people” and muscular federal regulation in a speech in Pittsburgh today. He will also blast President Donald Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson for not doing enough to respond to the threat of rogue AI.
📺 What We’re Reading. The Cook Political Report Battleground District poll surveyed voters in the 37 districts it rates as Toss Up, Lean Republican or Lean Democrat. In those competitive districts, which Trump won by an average of five points in 2024, Democrats now hold a two-point advantage on the generic congressional ballot, 49% to 47%. In other words, a district that Trump carried by five points in 2024 would have a Democratic advantage of two points today — a seven point swing in Democrats’ favor.

“Democrats with an eye on the presidency in 2028 are racing to address voters’ fears about artificial intelligence — planning speeches, warning about the technology on social media and, in a few cases, introducing legislation.
The flurry of activity, which so far has been heavier on rhetoric than specific policies, is a turnaround for many Democrats who have been slow to address the fast-changing technology that has a powerful industry behind it that has punished its perceived enemies in elections.

2. Election 2026: The 19 State House Races We’re Watching
“We are now less than 50 days from the midterm elections and if Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro wants to see his dream of the Democratic trifecta in Harrisburg come true, his party will have to hold onto its majority in the state House.
Democrats currently hold a 103-100 majority in the House and are hopeful that party enthusiasm and Republican apathy could enable Dems to take their largest advantage in the chamber since 1992 when they held 105 seats.” | PoliticsPA
