Alvin Q. Taylor, a pastor from Harrisburg, is vying for the Democrat nomination to run for the 15th State Senatorial District seat.
The 70-year-old long-time minister of United Missionary Baptist Church in Harrisburg has run for the seat before, losing in the 2016 primary to Rob Teplitz and in 2020 to George Scott.
In his announcement, Taylor said that his campaign would focus on healthcare issues and school equity and choice, among other issues.
“Our community has the unending problem of gun violence and death, which affects everyone’s quality of life,” Taylor sated. “We have to re-direct and re-prioritize taxpayers’ funds to address education, senior healthcare, homelessness and veterans’ issues.”
Taylor holds degrees from Virginia Seminary and College, Virginia Union University, and Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology Virginia Union.
He will compete for the nomination against Rep. Patty Kim (D-Dauphin/Cumberland) who will eschew reelection to her 103rd Legislative District seat in the Pennsylvania House to run for the open Senate seat. Incumbent John DiSanto (R-Dauphin) will not seek reelection.
The 15th State Senate District comprises the city of Harrisburg, the townships of Conewago, Derry, East Hanover, Londonderry, Lower Paxton, Lower Swatara, Middle Paxton, South Hanover, Susquehanna, Swatara and West Hanover, as well as the boroughs of Dauphin, Highspire, Hummelstown, Middletown, Paxtang, Penbrook, Royalton and Steelton.
