PA Senate Preview: South Central
We continue our series on the Pennsylvania state Senate races with a look at the south central part of the Keystone State. A reminder that only even-numbered Districts are up for election this season.
Contested Races
SD28: Kristin Phillips-Hill* (R) vs. Judith Higgins (D)
Phillips-Hill is looking for her second term in the state Senate. She has consistently voted to allow greater transparency in state government and public schools. Finally, she has rejected the liberal anti-Second Amendment policies leading to unprecedented violence and carjackings in cities by standing up for our Second Amendment rights.
Higgins, a small business owner, supports increasing public education funding, increasing Pennsylvania’s minimum wage to $12 immediately, with an annual increase of fifty cents over the following six years, and will fight for the women of Pennsylvania to ensure that choice remains available
Dave’s Redistricting Partisan Lean: R+27.7
Voter Registration: R+25.7 (54.8 – 29.1)
SD30: Judy Ward* (R) vs. Carol Taylor (D)
Ward looks for a return trip to Harrisburg. She is a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment, has protected the rights of the unborn by sponsoring the Heartbeat bill, and introduced legislation that allows voters to decide if the Pennsylvania Constitution should be amended to require identification to vote.
Taylor, a drug additions counselor, says she will support the right to make decisions about reproductive health, support our public schools, lower health care costs for Pennsylvanians, and is in favor of comprehensive background checks, red flag laws, and adequate training, as are most gun owners.
Dave’s Redistricting Partisan Lean: R+45.3
Voter Registration: R+39.6 (64.0 – 24.4)
SD34: Jim Massey (D) vs. Greg Rothman (R)
Massey, a retired Army officer who worked in the PA Department of Education, supports fully-funding schools, improving access to high-speed internet, protect mail-in voting and will work to protect Pennsylvanians’ access to reproductive care.
Rothman, a state representative in the 87th District, wants to defend the sanctity of human life and 2nd Amendment rights, enact pro-growth business policies and promote transparency in state government.
Dave’s Redistricting Partisan Lean: R+22.1
Voter Registration: R+33.2 (53.8 – 30.6)
SD48: Chris Gebhard* (R) vs. Calvin “Doc” Clements (D)
Gebhard, who won a special election for the seat a year ago, wants to ensure Pennsylvania has fair and honest elections, replace the governor’s tax-and-spend budget proposal with a fiscally responsible budget that puts families and taxpayers first, and protect the sanctity of life as a pro-life candidate.
Clements, former CEO of Central Pennsylvania Veterinary Associates, will immediately introduce legislation to roll back the raises and associated retirement fund increases that legislators recently granted themselves. He also wants to establish a voter ID law that will safeguard our elections
Dave’s Redistricting Partisan Lean: R+30.5
Voter Registration: R+36.6 (55.7 – 29.1)
Unopposed
SD36: Ryan Aument* (R-Lancaster)
