Market analysis: What to know before you trade
Sherrill has a high likelihood of securing New Jersey’s governor’s seat. However, Ciattarelli came close in the previous governor’s race. When he appeared to be heading for a loss in 2021, the RGA spent a fraction of the budget it had previously promised for the race. Ciattarelli still came within 3% of victory, a close race for an underfunded campaign.
Sherrill is a former navy pilot who has gone after Gov. Phil Murphy, a fellow Democrat, for cost of living issues in New Jersey. Her first TV ads called for lower utility costs, an issue Murphy has promised to address but hasn’t, to Sherrill’s satisfaction.
Ads focusing on cost of living issues were among the most successful Democratic messages of the 2024 presidential campaign among swing and infrequent voters. Those messages could prove foundational to a Democratic victory in New Jersey in 2025 and possibly create a roadmap for the 2026 midterms.
While Ciattarellli may climb in the polls, the economic consequences of Trump’s tariffs could push Sherrill into the governor’s mansion – if voters blame Trump for their economic woes.
