Bloomberg PAC Changes Tone, Airs Toomey-Favorable Ad (With Video)

You catch more flies with honey, and NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns PAC* is trying a sweeter approach now that Sen. Pat Toomey is working to strike a bipartisan deal on background checks.

The group’s latest latest television ad lauds Toomey for his willingness to address the national system for background checks.

MAIG Toomey ad“Senator Toomey understands how important that change is,” said a narrator against upbeat music.

“Call Senator Toomey. Tell him it’s time to take Pennsylvania solutions to Washington.”

The group’s first ad took a sharper tone toward Toomey. But news has since emerged that Toomey is working with West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin (D) on a background check deal. Democrats have abandoned bans on assault weapons and high capacity magazines, and background checks are their last hope for federal gun laws in the wake of the Newtown school shooting.

Several of Toomey’s Republican colleagues, including Sens. Ted Cruz (TX) and Rand Paul (KY) have threatened to filibuster and Democratic gun control measures.

Later today, the statewide organization Cease Fire PA will rally outside Toomey’s Philadelphia office with Mayor Michael Nutter and former Governor Ed Rendell. Expect the tone of that event to be sweeter, too, in light of the past week’s events.

  1. Pat Toomey, you are selling us out for sure. We in Pennsylvania are not stupid! YOU are wrong. 80% or more are in favor of the 2nd Amendment. Leave our guns alone!! Your job is to do as we, your constituents wish. NOT what you want. Maybe you had better find another way to support your family. 2016 is not far off. Pa. has had background checks for many years. Where have you been ???? Criminals will always find ways to have Guns.

  2. The 2nd amendment is to protect us from a tyrannical gov. Seems toomey and his cronies are trying to disarm the masses, not criminals. Well mr. Toomey you need to drop your protection detail that keeps you safe. If you and your political army come for my guns, you better bring yours.
