PA-Gov Round-Up: The End

PA-Governor-Mansion2Well, it’s all over.

On Tuesday, Tom Wolf defeated Tom Corbett 55% to 45% to become the next Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

We’ll take a look this week at the aftermath of the gubernatorial race.

Wolf

Once again, Wolf made a grand entrance abroad his Jeep to give his victory address.

Touching on the rich history of the Keystone State and his hopes for the future, the Democratic Gov-elect gave a stirring, upbeat speech.

On Thursday, Wolf severed any connection with his family business by announcing he will step down from the board of the Wolf Organization.

“Today, following a meeting of The Wolf Organization Board of Directors, Tom Wolf announced that he will step down from the Board of Directors effective December 31,” said Wolf campaign Communications Director Mark Nicastre. “He currently serves as the Non-Executive Chairman of the Board. Wolf retired as Chief Executive Officer of the Wolf Organization effective December 31, 2013.”

Then, Wolf officially began the transition with the launch of a new website: www.wolftransitionpa.com.

“Launching WolfTransitionPa.com is the first step in the transition process, and it will help facilitate a conversation with the people of Pennsylvania about giving our commonwealth a fresh start. During the transition, I will work to bring together people from diverse backgrounds who have new and innovative ideas for Pennsylvania,” said Tom Wolf. “It’s a big challenge, and I need people throughout Pennsylvania to be part of how we move Pennsylvania forward.”

Corbett

Meanwhile, Governor Corbett tried to look back positively at his four years in office.

“Tonight, I called and congratulated Governor-elect Tom Wolf on his victory and thanked him for a spirited and thoughtful campaign on the issues that matter to the people of Pennsylvania and their future,” Gov. Corbett said. “It has been a sincere honor to have faithfully served and held the people’s trust and confidence as Governor and Attorney General, and I’m proud of the decisions my administration has made over the last four years to leave behind a stronger Pennsylvania than the one we inherited.”

“Sue and I offer our prayers for Tom, his wife Frances and their family in their new role, and I have pledged my administration’s full cooperation and support in a speedy and seamless transition for the residents of the Commonwealth.”

The Corbett-Cawley Administration also received plaudits from the state’s Republican Party.

“I want to applaud Governor Tom Corbett and Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley for running a strong campaign,” PA GOP Chairman Rob Gleason said. “Tom Corbett and Jim Cawley have dedicated their lives to improving the lives of their fellow Pennsylvanians. Over the course of the past four years, Governor Tom Corbett and Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley have created 180,000 new private sector jobs, and lowered the unemployment rate to 5.7%.”

“Our Commonwealth is a better place because of their service.”

It’s been an exciting ten months and great fun to cover this race through this weekly feature. My sincere thanks to anyone that read one of these pieces and especially to those who read them all. We’ll have another similar feature and some more fun surprises soon.
