PA-Gov: Teamsters Local 830 Lauds Wolf on Inauguration Beer Decision

Cans of lager are filled at the Yuengling breweryA top official of Philadelphia-based Teamsters Local 830 today praised Governor-Elect Tom Wolf’s decision to exclude Yuengling beer products from his Inaugural celebration next Tuesday in Harrisburg.

Local 830 Secretary/Treasurer Daniel H. Grace believes the action was taken in response to Yuengling President Dick Yuengling’s distinctly anti-worker and anti-union attitudes.

“Every union member in Pennsylvania is indebted to Governor-Elect Wolf for this strong statement on behalf of the state’s labor movement,” Grace said. “By standing against Yuengling, he has stood up for the little guy.”

Although Wolf’s camp has not released any reason for the exclusion, Grace is confident that this is a clear-cut pro-worker decision.

“The Governor-Elect can’t offend anyone publicly over this situation, but I can,” he asserted. “The reason there won’t be any Yuengling beer served at the inauguration is that Dick Yuengling is defiantly, aggressively anti-worker and anti-union.”

“For nearly a decade now, he has abused those workers who wished to remain part of the Teamsters union and has steadfastly fought any new attempt to unionize his brewery workers,” Grace continued. “He’ll tell you otherwise – that his workers don’t want a union – but that’s simply false.”

“Every time he gets a whiff of an organizing effort, he threatens his workers with the loss of their jobs. He has openly stated his disdain for unions and has aggressively lobbied Republican legislators to bring ‘Right To Work’ laws to Pennsylvania, all in the interest of further lining his and other corporate fat cats’ own deep pockets.”

“This decision demonstrates that Governor-Elect Wolf supports Pennsylvania employers who treat their workers fairly,” he concluded.

It should be noted that Grace is a part of Tom Wolf’s transition review teams which serve to review state agencies and commissions for the incoming governor. He was named to the transportation review team in December.

  1. BH:
Yuengling is piss water. And he’s a union-buster. Wolf was right to tell him to take a hike.

  2. There is a reason that Governor Rick Scott is coming to Pennsylvania to meet with businesses on the advantages of relocating to Florida where the business climate and the weather climate are better.

Isn’t Tom Wolf’s company located in red York county non-union?

  3. The jury’s out on Wolf but dancing to the tune of a particularly childish union official on an issue like this just makes him look like a jellyfish.

  4. I am a progressive dem; I have no problem with the idea of unions. But, the unions we have in Pa are run buy guys who are (to be kind) lacking in ability. Johnny Doc is way more interested in the limelight than doing his job. John Kane was such a moron that the Delco republicans actually WANTED to debate him. No, the idea of a union isn’t the problem. It’s the morons running them in Pa that are hurting the middle class and business.

  5. Unions are unpopular because they ask people with no savings and lower wages to pay higher taxes so union members can get even higher wages and sweeter pensions.

  6. Oh !!! in Corporations we trust–real company sucks
the Corporations always have the best interest of the workers

LOL– I bet you all supported the use of “Breaker Boys “also

The Unions built the middle class in this country as union numbers decline–that is why there is such an income disparity in this country today while profits and CEO’s salary soar–so I just dismiss the comments that you SCABS Crony Corporate sucks make — keep drinking the fox tea

  7. One thing that’s for sure. Danny Grace sure as hell didn’t write that. Ever hear him butcher the English language? Tuengling dumped his union because they didn’t represent them aggresively.

  8. “Obsolete and outdated”??? Lololol… Now we have heard from the Big Business Labor Lawyer contingent. Wealth concentration and inequality is at its highest since before unions were born – we need unions more than ever! What happened to pensions? Unions declined and so did they. What happened to the 40 hour workweek and overtime? Gone – because unions are down. If we don’t have the unions make a comeback, there will be riots and fat cats getting murdered. Tell THAT to your Chamber of Commerce union busters, Buster!

  9. Dick Yuengling is really anti-worker…. He only treats his employees very well (without needing the compelling of unions mind you) and is the keystone of the Pottsville community.

Unions are like pay phones, they once served a purpose, now they are obsolete and outdated.

  10. Oh Comcast is ok though because last time I looked they sub out half their work to get around the CWA, oh that’s ok because they are friends of wolf. Yuengling has been in the commonwealth since 1800’s – Dan – you are an a-hole
